DataPLANT attended the 1st Conference on Research Data Infrastructure

Mon Sep 18 2023

DataPLANT attended the 1st Conference on Research Data Infrastructure, which took place from 12. - 14. September in Karlsruhe. Research data are the foundation of knowledge and innovation in all scientific fields. The key to harnessing these data treasures is a powerful infrastructure for establishing interdisciplinary research data management. Under the motto “Connecting Communities”, more than 700 national and international stakeholders from all fields of research as well as from the infrastructure sector took part to exchange ideas on excellent research data management (RDM) of the future. DataPLANT made intensive use of the opportunity to exchange ideas and network with NFDI consortia and other RDM stakeholders. Over the course of three days, topics related to RDM and the joint development of an effective research data infrastructure for Germany and beyond were examined from a variety of perspectives. CoRDI stands for more knowledge through better use of research data, for innovation and the resulting societal benefits.

DataPLANT was present more than seven posters and its own booth, partly in direct collaboration with other consortia. The posters attempted to provide a broad overview of current and future developments within the consortium, as well as highlighting potential collaborations and further developments. Topics included

  • Integrating Long-Term Access into DataPLANT Data Management Workflows: Towards common technical solutions
    Poster and Abstract
  • GitLab as a tool for Research Data Management: Candidate for a Base4NFDI General Service
    Poster and Abstract
  • DataPLANT Cloud-Oriented Service Infrastructure: Open for Integration and Adaptation
    Poster
    Conference paper
  • Improving the Research Desktop Experience for OpenStack VDI: Integrating Hardware Accelerated Rendering and Remote Transport
    joint submission together with NFDI4BIOIMAGE
    Conference paper
  • Optimizing User Support through Synergistic Integration of Helpdesk Systems: A Case Study of NFDI4Biodiversity and DataPLANT joint submission together with NFDI4Biodiversity
    Poster and Abstract
  • Using Container OntologiesBuilton ISA for(Meta)data QualityAnalysis in Transcriptomics
    Poster
  • Combining the BIDS and ARC Directory Structures for Multimodal Research Data Organization
joint submission together with NFDI4BIOIMAGE and CEPLAS
    Poster
  • One Resource to Teach Them All
    joint submission together with CEPLAS
    Poster
    Conference Paper

There was also a presentation on Galaxy and RDM- Being More Than a Workflow Manager: Living the Data Life Cycle by the Galaxy team, a key partner and contributor to our consortium. We received a lot of positive feedback on the developments presented and opened further channels for exchange and future collaboration. DataPLANT speakers took part in the Pecha Cafe on the first day, interacting with the German Science Foundation and the NFDI expert group to form a vision for future developments.
